Well, I would call it the Age of Awareness – it’s that first time we look in a mirror and realize things are a-changing for the worse. Usually it shows as a slow buildup of mid body fat for men – they haven’t yet noticed loss of muscle, but it’s happening. For the women I council or otherwise listen to it’s usually their face they notice first. Whenever this occurs, we all start looking for answers; ways to stop the process and retain our youth. But – it can’t be stopped, we are going to grow old and die! However, we can optimize the process to stay disease-free (in most cases), strong, fit, pain-free and happy if we make the right lifestyle choices. That is my thesis here at Senior Fitness.com. And my self-appointed job is to find and report lifestyle choices that lead to optimization of Aging.
How do we slow/optimize the aging process? Do the following: Eat to be Lean! Exercise to be Well-Muscled! Sleep to be Well-Repaired! These are the primary strategies to be adopted. But you say, how does one do that? The devil is in the details, and the details are on this website, with effective instruction for putting these strategies into action and making them lifetime habits.
You will find the optimum ways to eat in our Nutrition Category to get the most mileage out of your body and keep it supplied with the raw materials for lasting health.
Similarly, you will find the optimum ways to exercise the body to hang on to the highest quality, tuned-up, coordinated working muscle for most of your life in our Exercise Category. And since my research and experience show that the most effective way to keep muscle, or even build more than we ever had before, is through weight training, we focus on the best methods in our Weight Training Category.
Nearly all of our body’s repair happens at night while we sleep; poor sleep equals insufficient repair and leads to fat gain, joint failure, crashing energy production, with endocrine, neurologic, and hormonal wear out. So we tell you how to get quality sleep in our Rest, Recovery and Recreation Category.
Finally, much of the functional losses due to aging can be compensated for to a large degree by using the right supplements. We detail the latest technology on supplement use in our Supplements Category. We show how supplements can be used to make up for lacking elements in today’s food products, how they can help us digest and absorb nutrients better, how to replace things our bodies now produce at lower rates, get our organs functioning like they did in youth, and to have energy to play, work and think like we did decades ago.
As the science unfolds we update the site to keep you well informed and motivated to keep living well. Optimizing the aging process can be great fun, and it so beats lying around in discomfort watching ourselves wear out – get involved in your own health management. Spend your time, effort and wealth now in pursuit of lasting health for later – it will prove to be a terrific bargain.
