For the last month and a half I have been using a combination of over-the-counter supplements and a prescription drug to safely
- Lower estrogen levels
- Raise testosterone levels
- Block dihydrotestosterone (DHT) production
- Create an anabolic metabolic state
with rather amazing results. At Gold’s Gym in Woodland Hills where my buddy Tony and I workout at lunch time, we are laughingly referred to as the Results Brothers or the Results Team, depending on who is razzing us. This because I one day I goaded one of the members that while he had been working out for a year, I hadn’t seen any visible results from his effort.
At 67, I have a pretty good excuse for not making a lot of bodybuilding progress, but in fact, I have gained muscle mass and maintained low body-fat levels every year since Tony and I started at this gym seven years ago. That in spite of a quad bypass, a knee surgery, and a shoulder surgery. This year I decided to up the game so I could have something interesting to write about on Senior Fitness.com, so I tried a combination of items that seemed to me would result in more visible gains.
As a baseline, I still take a basket of nutritional supplements to insure complete nutrition, high antioxidant levels, energy production and joint healing. I also still use BSN’s NO-Xplode before workouts and to jump-start my day in the morning, and Cellmass as a post-workout recovery drink. These two make a massive difference in the way I can attack a workout and recover from it, still able to function as an engineer for the rest of the workday. Very cool supplements!
The new strategy began with asking my Urologist for the drug Avodart which blocks DHT production, halting and even reversing Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). It accomplishes this by blocking the conversion of testosterone to DHT in the prostate and other sites (note that this raises serum testosterone levels). Second, I added the product Attitude manufactured by S.A.N., which has a three-fold action:
- Blocks estrogen receptor sites, reducing estrogen’s influence in all tissues
- Binds to and clears estrogen from the body
- Tricks the hormone regulation system into increasing testosterone output because of the low estrogen levels.
The result – higher testosterone levels without a growing prostate or added breast tissue (a hallmark of male aging).
I had been using this strategy for the last nine months or so, and saw reasonably good results, but nothing spectacular. I had hardened up, grown some muscle size, and saw reduction in the fat deposits that come with being my age. Then about 45 days ago I started taking Muscletech’s Leukic, which claims to create an anabolic metabolic state without perturbing hormone levels. In essence, it up-regulates muscle growth by activating the same anabolic chemical signals that testosterone does, but without the hormone. I have to tell you, this stuff works – in a little over a month, friends and coworkers have made comments and I am borderline-stunned at how I look in the mirrors. I never put any ‘before’ shots up on the site, so I can’t really show the ‘after’ difference, and I suffer from not liking what the camera reveals to me anyway. Part of me is expecting to see a 30 year-old in the image and it’s always a bit of a shock to see the real thing. I may decide to brave it and try to take some exercise shots that are kind to me. For now, you have my testimonial for Leukic – I just reordered two more month’s supply.
